Abstract

Eddie Fennell and Charles "Sugar Lou" Morgan headed an early Tyler African American jazz band, which recorded in Dallas in 1929 and 1930. This presentation takes a look at the Fennell and Morgan families and the rise and fall of the Hotel Tyler Orchestra, and includes several selections of their music.
