Abstract
There is a strong influence on retention of the new graduate nurse during the first year of a nurse residency program. A positive correlation between nurse residency programs and return on investment were found. The retention of the new graduate nurse is influenced on precepting and mentoring of the new graduate nurse. Standardizing the reporting of interventions should be the focus on future studies as there are many interventions in regards to precepting and mentoring that influence retention.
