Abstract

During the 1920s and early 1930s, Julius Rosenwald, president of Sears Roebuck, helped to fund the construction of thousands of rural African-American schools across the South. Eighteen of these were in Smith County, Texas. This presentation discusses the process of funding, construction designs, and the location of these schools.
