Abstract

Intensive care unit (ICU) environment predisposes patients to develop delirium if appropriate steps are not taken to prevent it. Many ICU patients suffer from delirium due to immobility, multiple invasive lines, restraints, and many other factors. Delirium is prevalent in ICUs and can be debilitating with long-lasting consequences to the patients and their families long after they leave the ICU environment. One of the strategies to battle delirium is implementation of the multicomponent and multidisciplinary approach called ABCDE bundle. It requires multiple medical personnel’s involvement in order to be successful. The multidisciplinary team that manages the patients should consist of a bedside nurse, the respiratory therapist (RT), the physical and /or occupational therapist (PT/OT), the pharmacist, and the ICU providers.
