Abstract

The purpose of the project is to display the ease of use of a Galaxy Unlimited Wireless Boatlift Control through the interaction of a created scaled down boat lift. The project adds a device that collects and records data of customer interaction with the scaled down lift to establish an effectiveness metric of the product. The determined design uses a mechanical boat lift which is the most common household system. The boat lift uses an overhead cable spooling system with an aluminum frame for structural support. For raising the boat, a synchronous motor drives the main shaft on the frame which leads to the system lifting or lowering the boat. The boat lift system and frame are encased within an aluminum cabinet for both aesthetic and storage purposes. The data collection scheme uses separate microcontrollers in conjunction with two sensors to collect and compare data for how many individual customers passed by the module with or without using the wireless boat lift controller. The Galaxy Control module provides the mechanism with a wireless controller. The Galaxy Control Box transforms and distributes power within the system and is able to set custom lift motion range controls. The primary usage of the final product is for marketing purposes. The challenge that arose was creating a working reproducible product with an affordable price for a scaled down system. Scaled down custom parts were not readily available, making it difficult to stay within the budget. If there is mass production of these parts, the overall price might be reduced to create a more affordable product.
